About Inkgrid
Inkgrid is a free nonogram game, the picture-logic puzzle also known as picross, griddlers or hanjie, built for the browser with no download. The numbers beside each row and above each column give the lengths of the runs of filled cells, in order, with at least one gap between runs. Work out which cells must be ink and which must be blank, and a picture appears.
There are sixty puzzles in six packs. The Sketch pack is ten small motifs on a 5x5 grid, a heart, a key, a cat, to learn the logic. Doodle moves to 8x8, Study and Figure to 10x10, Portrait to 12x12 and Mural to 15x15 ornaments. Every puzzle has been checked with a line solver so that it can be finished by logic alone, with exactly one solution and no guessing.
Fill cells by tapping or dragging; switch to Mark, or right-click, to put an X on cells you know are empty. Filling a wrong cell counts as a mistake and becomes an X, so you can never paint yourself into a corner. No mistakes earns three stars; three hints per level reveal a cell but cap you at two. Progress is saved in your browser and your star total goes to the public Top 10.
It is an original TabSpawn game drawn on a canvas as ink on paper, with a different paper tint per pack and clue numbers that fade as each line is satisfied. It works with a finger on a phone or tablet and a mouse on a laptop or Chromebook.
How to play
- Read the clues: each number is a run of filled cells in that row or column, in order, separated by at least one empty cell.
- Tap or drag across cells to fill them. Start with rows and columns whose clues add up to the full width.
- Switch to Mark (or right-click) to put an X on cells that must be empty. Marks are free and help you see the runs.
- A wrong fill flashes red, turns into an X and counts as a mistake. Three hints per level reveal a cell.
- The level is complete when the picture matches every clue. Finish with no mistakes for three stars.

Tips
- A clue that fills the line exactly, like 5 in a row of 5 or 2 2 in a row of 5, is a free start.
- Overlap trick: a run of 4 in a row of 5 must cover the middle three cells whichever way it sits.
- Mark what cannot be filled as soon as you know it. The X marks turn long rows into short ones.
